From First Database Connection to AI Vector Search. Getting Started with the New Rust Driver for Oracle AI Database

Oracle Database now has a native Rust driver (rust-oracledb), a pure Rust thin driver that connects directly to Oracle Database using the Oracle Net protocol with no external dependencies.

In this session Juarez introduces it and shows Rust engineers how to move from zero setup to a working database-backed Rust application, providing you with all the details on installing the driver, understanding how the pure Rust thin driver connects directly to Oracle Database, and using basic authentication.

From there, Juarez will run simple queries, cover connection pooling for applications that need scalable database access, and then close with a practical introduction to AI Vector Search.

Attendees will leave with a clear understanding of the driver and the confidence to start building Rust applications that connect to Oracle Database

Juarez Barbosa Junior is a Sr. Principal Java Developer Evangelist at Oracle. Previously, he was an Azure Developer Relations Lead at Microsoft and a Thought Leader and Technical Evangelist at IBM.

He has over 20 years of professional experience, having held senior leadership roles in DevRel, software engineering, and startup-related initiatives. His knowledge comprises Java, Python, Rust, Cloud Computing (Oracle OCI, Azure, GCP, IBM Cloud, and AWS), DevOps, IaC, CI/CD, and Cloud Native.
